Codelit for Mac
Codelit for Mac gives you persistent AI bots that keep conversations, approved memory, skills, routines, local data, and run receipts on your Mac. No Codelit account is required.
Start local for free
Open the Mac app and start with the seeded Codelit bot, or create a specialist bot from one plain-language job. Sensitive workspace records are encrypted in the local SQLite database. The built-in MLX model can run without sending prompts or model output to Codelit or another provider.
- No account is required.
- No hosted model budget is used.
- Folder access is read-only and chosen through the macOS picker.
- Local originals never upload automatically.
Choose the distribution that matches the work
The sandboxed Mac App Store build includes bots, conversations, the built-in local model, user-owned API providers, approved memory, reusable skills, local tables, multi-bot handoffs, foreground routines, read-only selected folders, and inspectable receipts. Apple manages its updates.
- Codelit for Mac Direct additionally supports eligible external subscription engines, reviewed MCP tools, automated local browser and computer control, background routines, and signed Codelit updates.
- The App Store build does not invoke external command-line agents, expose a browser, control the computer, install a background helper, request Accessibility or Screen Recording, or open an external checkout.
- Both profiles preserve the same bot conversations, memory, skills, and local receipts.
Know what leaves the Mac
Bot conversations, prompts, memories, skills, routines, local tables, model files, run events, and receipts remain on the device when the built-in model is selected. If you explicitly select a user-owned API provider, Codelit sends only the bounded run context to that provider under its account and terms.
- API credentials remain in macOS Keychain.
- Folder bookmarks remain local and are never included in an export.
- Codelit never silently switches to a different provider or billing family.
Keep control visible
Every bot run stays in its conversation with a truthful status and local receipt. Bot memory is explicit and editable, inferred memory waits for approval, and adding another bot shares only the context needed for that handoff.
- Use the bot profile for goals, approval policy, memory, skills, and local data.
- Use All activity for foreground routines and multi-bot handoffs.
- Use Privacy to confirm which Direct-only capabilities remain unavailable in the App Store build.
Remove access and data
Remove a selected project to revoke its folder bookmark. Remove a downloaded model to reclaim storage. Use Delete local workspace in Settings > Privacy to remove Codelit's encrypted database, model/runtime data, permissions, and other app-owned local records after explicit confirmation.
